Last year we collaborated closely with machinery manufacturer Illig to develop a new downstacking thermoforming technology. Our engineers worked alongside Illig to develop the technology that now allows faster stacking speeds to be achieved with less machine down time. More intricate shapes can also be accommodated which adds versatility to the packaging designers armoury. The tooling cost has also been reduced as a result and the blow back box eliminated making cleaning easier which is another plus especially for food applications.

The machine has been hugely successful at Macpac, so much so that another model has been developed, again in collaboration with Illig. This time the software end of the stacking system has been refined for even better performance. The new machine was delivered and commissioned in September and is already making a significant impact on Macpac’s manufacturing output. Delivery was intricate operation in itself as the machine had to be lifted in sections and guided into the factory. We’ve become quite adept at this with our handling specialists as we generally install new machinery every year to ensure that we have a rolling programme of equipment replacement that provides the quality our customers demand.
