During the last year or so we have developed a range of protective transit packaging for the horticultural market. The range has been designed specifically for growers and suppliers of plug plants. It has been developed in collaboration with one of the major mail order plant suppliers and addresses the problems usually encountered by such companies.
Plants that are delivered through the postal system or by couriers are susceptible to damage. This can create problems for the suppliers customer service department, not to mention having to send out replacement plants that effectively ‘writes off’ the value of the original order. Add to this the probability of lost future business and the negative publicity that can influence potential new purchasers and its easy to see why packaging is so important to the success of mail order suppliers. When plants do arrive in pristine condition and looking really healthy it inspires customer confidence, creates positive publicity and encourages future purchases.
Macpac’s new Plantpac range provides maximum plant protection and features generous ventilation and watering points. The packs are made from recycled PET that offers high clarity and really shows the plant off to best effect. The pack holds the root ball securely whilst allowing ample space for the foliage to be protected too. Every pack incorporates a new simple, yet very secure closure mechanism that has been designed for quick closures even when the packers are wearing gloves. As the packs are a standard range there are no tooling costs to incur although packs can be personalized with the customer logo for a small extra charge.
Plantpac – Macpac’s transit clampack range for plug plants
There are currently 6 different sizes available – 3cmx6, 3cmx12, 4cmx6, 4cmx12, 5cmx6 and 5cmx12. For customers that would like to add value to their branding, the packs can also be supplied with a ‘suitcase’ style outer sleeve with an integral carrying handle. These sleeves can be pre-printed in the customer’s own design and can really add to the visual impact of the pack. They can also be supplied in plain white.
After use all of the packaging can be fully recycled. These exciting new packs for horticulture will be launched at the FourOaks Horticultural show in September. They will also be on display at the Packaging Innovations Exhibition at London Business Design Centre 1-2 October 2013.
