What is a trapped blister?

A trapped blister is a thermoformed blister pack shape that is sandwiched between either a single folded card or two cards that are sealed together. This pack type affords a reasonable level of security making it suitable for a wide variety of products. The plastic and backing boards are not sealed to each other, unlike a heat sealed blister, which makes them ideal for recycling, as there is no plastic/paper contamination.

Other advantages of the trapped blister include minimal use of plastic and maximum possible area available for printed material to be included within the pack. The blister shape can be made to precisely fit the product with minimal tooling cost, as there are no additional plinths required or surplus plastic to be factored into the tooling process. Product access is relatively straightforward. The reverse of the backing card can be perforated or the blister can be pulled through the card. Whilst being tamper evident if higher levels of security are required for more expensive products a clamshell blister pack may prove to be a better option especially in combination with heat sealing that makes a pack virtually tamper proof without scissors or a cutting implement.

Trapped blister packs can have a euroslot incorporated into the design so that they can be hung at the point of sale. In the not too distant past at Macpac we were tasked with creating an attractive promotional pack that could either hang from a euroslot or free stand.  The resulting pack gave all the benefits of the trapped blister pack design concept in a way that really stood out at the point of purchase leading to a very successful promotion
